College Library Application

Redefining Reading Experiences in College

Our college has an extensive collection of books and resources in the Library but due to problems like distance, lack of awareness, due dates and location of books, students tend to not use the library. This is our attempt to solve these problems with the help of an application that can be accessed by all the students and faculty of our college.

Design Brief

Redesign the library system in order to create engagement and interest in the students, faculty and guests.

Problems

  • The library is quite far.

  • There does not seem to be a accessible database for all students, unless you are physically in the library.

  • The books are not divided into majors (Academic Purposes)

  • During the time of the design charette (exams), the entire library’s atmosphere is changed to that of the a printing press, as everyone comes to print there.

  • There is no form of contact between the librarian and the students, other than physically talking.

  • There seems to be no sort of awareness of the library and the amazing the books it has, by the new students.

  • There is quite a bit of difficulty in locating books.

Going Forward

This was just a rapid one week session of brainstorming and designing screens for the brief that we were given. I would love to spend more time on each step of the whole process and test the prototype, after which I would be able to design the screens for the whole application along with the style guide.
